Campaign Participation

The research team at the Canadian Centre for DNA Barcoding is deeply involved in several large-scale barcoding campaigns.

In 2005, the Canadian Barcode of Life Network (BOLNET.CA) was launched, involving nearly 50 university and governmental researchers across Canada. This, the first national network dedicated to DNA barcoding, aims to barcode Canada’s biological diversity with emphasis on species of economic importance. The CCDB is the administrative hub for this network, and also provides its core DNA barcode sequencing facility.

At the international level, the Canadian Centre for DNA Barcoding is involved in several major campaigns, including the Fish Barcode of Life (FISH-BOL), the All Birds Barcoding Initiative (ABBI), and the All Lepidoptera campaign (All-Leps). In each of these global efforts, the CCDB is involved in analyzing specimens, and is aiding campaign organization. In addition, the CCDB is involved in approximately 200 smaller barcoding projects from around the world.
