Facilities: Digital Imaging
The Digital Media and Analysis Unit (DMAU) at the Biodiversity Institute of Ontario has undertaken the task of taking high-quality digital images of whole specimens barcoded by the CCDB. These high-quality digital images serve as visual records of specimen morphology, and are published online through Barcode of Life Data Systems. Major imaging contributions have been to a number of barcoding initiatives including All-Leps and FISH-BOL.
The DMAU employs a number of microscopes, dissecting scopes, high-resolution cameras and scanners. At present, the DMAU is aiming to achieve a rate of 50,000 specimen images per year.
