Facilities: Core Sequencing Facility
The core laboratory facility at the CCDB is equipped with the latest in high throughput equipment and instrumentation. Virtually all aspects of barcode generation are automated, from DNA extraction to sequencing. Highlights of lab equipment include:
2 Biomek® FX liquid handling systems.
1 Biomek® NX liquid handling system.
2 ABI 3730XL® DNA Analyzers.
Samples are processed in 96-well form to aid in efficiency and speed in processing. The laboratory is on pace to generate DNA barcodes for 125,000 specimens in 2007 and targeting barcode records for 500,000 specimens a year by 2010.
