Facilities: BOLD Systems
The Barcode of Life Data (BOLD) Systems is an online workbench that aids in the collection, management, and analysis of DNA barcodes. This powerful platform now serves members of the barcoding community at scales ranging from individual researchers to international barcoding coalitions. Some of these research alliances include the Canadian Barcode of Life Network, FISH-BOL, All-Leps, and ABBI.
The first version of the BOLD (v 1.0) workbench was in operation from 2003 until 2005 and opened the door for broad-ranging collaborations. A new version of BOLD (v 1.05) was released on January 1, 2006. It included three primary components - the management and analysis, identification, and external connectivity systems (MAS, IDS, & ECS). The hardware infrastructure supporting the BOLD workbench consists of 152 GHz of total processing power and six Terabytes of data storage.
