Facilities
The laboratory facilities for the Canadian Centre for DNA Barcoding are based at the Biodiversity Institute of Ontario at the University of Guelph. The CCDB maintains an extensive specimen sample collection, image collection, and a high-throughput barcoding facility that is capable of processing upwards of 100K specimens per year. This streamlined process involves varied high-volume DNA isolation protocols, many optimized for use with robotic liquid handling systems. The barcode sequencing is performed using two ABI 3730 sequencers, and a third will be added in late-2006. The BOLD Systems database and associated information services are driven by 152 GHz of total processing power and six terabytes of data storage.
